Question:
What was the cause of the revelation of (Allah has heard the statement of the one who argues with you)

Answer:
Answer: This was a woman whose husband had pronounced zihar against her. In the early days of Islam, zihar was considered a divorce. So he pronounced zihar against her, and she came to complain to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) because she had small children. She said, "If I leave them, they will be distressed, and if I leave them with their father, they will go hungry." The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I do not see that you have become forbidden to him, based on the initial legislation." Then Allah abrogated that and made zihar an oath that is dissolved by expiation: (And those who pronounce zihar from their wives and then return from what they have said, then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. That is what you are instructed, and Allah is, with what you do, Acquainted. But whoever does not find [a slave] then [he must observe] two consecutive months of fasting before they touch one another. But whoever is unable [to fast] then [he must provide] food for sixty poor people). So Allah abrogated that zihar be a divorce and made it an oath that is dissolved by expiation.
