What is the meaning of ikhlas?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the meaning of ikhlas? And if a servant intends something other than worship in his worship, what is the ruling?

Answer:
Answer: The meaning of ikhlas is being free from shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is that a person’s deed, intention, and purpose be pure for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), with no shirk in them, no riya’ (showing off in worship), and no seeking of fame. There should be no intention for anything other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic). One should not seek thereby worldly gain or praise from people. Thus, the deed is pure for the sake of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), for Allah does not accept of deeds except what is pure for His sake (Blessed and Exalted is He).
