Warning Against Forbidden Earnings
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Islam encourages lawful earnings, but I would like you to tell us about the consequences of forbidden earnings on the individual and society?
Answer:
Forbidden earnings, may Allah protect us from it, nourish the body with corrupt nourishment and raise the person in evil. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the one who travels a long distance, disheveled and covered in dust, stretching his hands to the sky, saying, “O Lord, O Lord,” meaning he calls upon Allah and persists, while his food is forbidden, his drink is forbidden, his clothing is forbidden, and he is nourished with the forbidden, so how will his supplication be answered? Thus, consuming the forbidden, using it, and taking it prevents the acceptance of supplication and blocks the door of response between him and his Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He). Consuming the forbidden is dangerous and has negative effects on a person’s behavior and his dealings with people. He becomes hated in the Muslim community and people turn away from him, among other harmful consequences resulting from consuming the forbidden. Even if its only harm were that it prevents the acceptance of response and the acceptance of deeds, there is no power and no strength except with Allah. Therefore, the Muslim should be content with the lawful and refrain from the forbidden, and be satisfied with what Allah has made lawful, for in it is good and blessing. He should leave what Allah has forbidden, for there is no good in it; it is a harm to him and a heavy burden on his back on the Day of Resurrection.
