Explaining what is required of one who begins the day fasting and then sets out on a journey during the day

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q261: The questioner says: I was compelled to travel while I was fasting, for example after the afternoon prayer. Is it permissible for me to break my fast, and does this constitute a severance and invalidation of the deed?
A261: If he intends to complete the day in which he traveled while fasting, then the best, or obligatory according to some scholars, is that he completes the day that
he began and fasted in his place of residence, and then he traveled. The best, or obligatory, is that he completes it. As for what follows, if he wishes he may break his fast, and if he wishes he may fast; for Allah the Exalted said:
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:184]
