The ruling on breaking the intention of fasting during the day, whether it is an obligatory fast or a voluntary one

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I was fasting, then I intended to break my fast in the middle of the day, but I changed my mind and completed my day. Is there anything required of me regarding this intention? And what if it was an obligatory fast? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
If this was an obligatory fast and you broke the intention, then your fast is invalid. However, you must complete the day by abstaining from food and drink, and you must make up this day. This is because the intention is a condition for the validity of fasting, and the continuity of the intention is required from the second dawn until the setting of the sun. Fasting is abstaining from things that break the fast with an intention from the second dawn until the setting of the sun; this is what fasting is. As for a voluntary fast, it is not invalidated by breaking the intention as long as you do not eat, drink, or consume anything that breaks the fast. Merely breaking the intention does not invalidate a voluntary fast.
