The ruling on using toilets that face the direction of the qiblah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q38: The questioner Abu Sa'd says: What is the ruling on the toilets, may Allah exalt you, that are located facing the qiblah, given that there is a wall barrier? I am doing work on my house, and they were placed facing the qiblah, and I was not aware of the ruling?
A38: It is obligatory to orient toilets away from the qiblah. However, if toilets are found in buildings facing the qiblah, there is no harm in that; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was seen relieving himself with his back to the qiblah and facing the direction of Sham; because he was inside a building. This indicates that what is inside a building differs from open space. In open space, one does not face the qiblah with urine or feces, nor does one face it
with his back to it with urine or feces. As for inside a building, the correct view is that there is no harm in that; due to the presence of a barrier between him and the qiblah.
