Ruling on building toilets facing the qiblah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q438: The questioner says: The toilets—may Allah honor you—which are facing the qiblah, despite the presence of a barrier, where I built my house and the toilets were placed facing the qiblah, and I was not aware of the ruling, so what is your guidance?
A438: It is obligatory to direct toilets away from the qiblah, but if toilets are found in buildings facing the qiblah, there is no harm in that; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was seen relieving himself with his back to the qiblah and facing the direction of Sham; because he was inside a building, which indicates that the interior of a building differs from open space. In open space, one does not face the qiblah with urine or feces, nor does one turn one’s back to it with urine or feces. As for inside a building, the correct view is that there is no harm in that, due to the presence of a barrier between him and the qiblah.
