Ruling on Giving Voluntary Charity to Workers and Servants

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q224: The questioner says: If I have workers, should I give them from voluntary charity, or from zakah?
A224: Voluntary charity is broad in scope; you may give it to needy workers and others. As for zakah, you do not give it except to the poor. So if the workers are poor and their income is not sufficient for them, you give them from zakah, provided they are Muslims, on the condition that they are Muslims and that they are poor.
