Q1: I am a woman who was unaware that placing the hand inside the private parts for cleaning invalidates fasting. This continued for several years, and I am now making up what I owe. Do I have to feed people, and what is the amount? The cause of all this was ignorance, and I am unable to fast except in the winter.
A1: Inserting the hand into the private parts does not invalidate fasting unless semen comes out due to it from desire, in which case it invalidates the fast, and only making up the fast is obligatory. If another Ramadan comes and those days are not made up without an excuse, then it is obligatory to feed a poor person along with making up the fast: one and a half kilograms of the local staple food for each day, along with repentance to Allah for the delay and not returning to that in the future. As for inserting the hand into the private parts for cleaning without semen coming out from desire, it does not invalidate the fast, and it does not make making up the fast obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
