Verbalizing the Intention of Fasting

The first and fifth questions of Fatwa No. ( 16396 )
Q1: For a period, immediately after the Maghrib prayer, we intended to fast as follows: (I intend to fast tomorrow for the performance of the obligatory month of Ramadan for this year for the sake of Allah the Exalted, in faith and seeking reward for the face of the Noble Allah). The followers would repeat after the imam, doing what he did.
A1: Forming the intention in the night before the dawn breaks for fasting each day is obligatory by the Shari'ah; based on the hadith of Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 730Da'if (Darussalam) It was narrated by the compilers of the Sunan. The place of the intention is the heart, based on the hadith of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Therefore, verbalizing the intention of fasting, and similarly the intention of prayer, is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no evidence for it. The people have erred in this regarding the madhhab of Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), for there is no single text from him regarding verbalizing the intention, as Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) clarified in (Zad al-Ma'ad). Accordingly, you and the congregation of the mosque must abandon verbalizing the intention of fasting as you mentioned, and adhering to the Sunnah is all good and blessing.
