Clarification that what the latecomer catches up with the imam is the beginning of his prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q419: The questioner says: If the first or second unit of prayer is missed with the congregation, does the one making up the prayer recite a chapter along with al-Fatihah, considering it as making up for what was missed, or does he restrict himself to reciting al-Fatihah only?
A419: The correct view is that what he catches up with the imam is the beginning of his prayer, and what he performs after the imam’s closing salam is the end of his prayer. This is applied according to the correct view: he recites what is easy of the Qur'an after al-Fatihah in the first two units of his prayer, and in the last two units, or in one of them, he recites al-Fatihah only.
