Q4: Is it permissible for one who is unable to stone the pillars during Hajj to appoint someone to stone on his behalf?
A4: If one is unable to stone the pillars due to old age or illness, it is permissible for him to appoint a trustworthy, capable person from among those who performed Hajj with him to stone on his behalf after that person has stoned for himself, and this suffices for him due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:6] and His saying: [Al-Baqarah 2:286] Likewise, women for whom it is difficult to stone due to old age or illness, or because they are pregnant or have children for whom they have no one to look after while they go to stone, or because they fear severe crowding—it is permissible for them to appoint a trustworthy pilgrim to stone on their behalf for the reasons mentioned.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
