Q: I broke my fast in Ramadan for an excuse, and when making it up, I broke my fast before the midday prayer while ignorant of the ruling. Is there anything required of me in that? And does that entail an expiation?
A: It is obligatory for you to make up one day in place of the day of making up that you did not complete fasting until night. And if you delayed making it up until another Ramadan without an excuse, it is obligatory, along with making it up, to feed a poor person the amount of half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the staple food of the land. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
