Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I hope you will tell us about how to love Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and how to love the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and the factors that help in achieving this, may you be rewarded?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. As for what follows, loving Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the greatest of the types of heart worship, the greatest of the types of heart worship. Allah the Exalted said: "And those who believe are stronger in love for Allah." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you truly believes until Allah and His Messenger are dearer to him than all else, and until he loves a person for no reason other than for the sake of Allah." So loving Allah is the foundation of worship, and it is not permissible to love anyone other than Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with the love of servitude, humility, and prostration; this is exclusive to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Likewise, loving the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is subordinate to loving Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and likewise loving the awliya (close friends of Allah) and loving the believers; all of this is subordinate. This is what is called love for the sake of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), subordinate to loving Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It is an act of the heart. What strengthens it and aids in it is reflecting upon the blessings of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and the signs of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), for this increases your love for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If you reflect upon His kindness to you, His blessings upon you, the strength He has given you, the health He has granted you, the provision He has given you, and the security He has provided, this will bequeath in you the love of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
