Ruling on whether the funeral prayer suffices in place of the greeting of the mosque

Q560: The questioner says: If I enter the mosque and find them praying the funeral prayer, and I pray with them, does that suffice in place of the greeting of the mosque if a person intends to remain in the mosque? And if one prays over the funeral at times when prayer is prohibited, is there any harm in that?
A560: The funeral prayer does not suffice in place of the greeting of the mosque if one intends to sit, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 1167 The greeting of the mosque is two rak'ahs, as stated in the hadith. This does not apply to the funeral prayer. However, one should pray over the funeral with the congregation, and then, after completing the prayer and intending to sit in the mosque, he should pray two rak'ahs as the greeting of the mosque. As for performing the greeting of the mosque at times when prayer is prohibited, there is scholarly disagreement on this matter, and the ruling is broad in this case. If one does it, there is no harm, and if he leaves it, there is no harm, given the difference in the evidence regarding this. The greeting of the mosque is a recommended practice (sunnah) and is not obligatory.
A560: The funeral prayer does not suffice in place of the greeting of the mosque if one intends to sit, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If anyone of you enters a Mosque, he should not sit until he has offered a tworak` at prayer.
