Naming oneself 'Abd al-Satir
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 17252 )
Q: We ask your Eminence to issue a written fatwa regarding naming oneself ('Abd al-Satir) , and whether the request to change it is justified, and whether this name is established for Allah the Exalted and Majestic?
A: (Al-Satir) is not one of the names of Allah the Exalted, but rather it is a description of Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). He is the One who conceals the faults of His servants, and it is not permissible to derive a name for Allah the Exalted
from this attribute; because the names of Allah the Exalted are based on revelation, and (Al-Satir) is not among them. Therefore, the demand that the person mentioned change his name ('Abd al-Satir) is justified. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
