Naming a child Yara

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21673 )
Q: Allah has blessed me with a female child, praise be to Allah. My wife and I have agreed to name her (Yara); the origin of this name is Persian, and it means (strength, power, ability, courage). Given its noble meanings, and since it is not imitating a non-Islamic figure, nor is it among the names explicitly forbidden, nor among names containing servitude to other than Allah, nor do its words carry pessimism or blameworthy meanings, nor does it contain religious sanctification, nor is it among the names of the angels, nor among the names of the chapters of the Qur'an. I have resolved to name her (Yara) and ask Allah that she be among the bearers of the Noble Qur'an. Question: What is the ruling on naming her with this name ?
A: As long as the name is, as you mentioned, of Persian origin, we advise you not to name her with it; because it is imitating the non-Arabs, and the Shari'ah has forbidden it. So distancing oneself from that is what is required by the Shari'ah. There are many beautiful Arabic names free from prohibitions, and the father is commanded to beautify the names of his children: sons and daughters. That is evidence of the perfection of a man and the soundness of his intellect.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
