Every boy is a pledge for his 'aqiqah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16470 )
Q1: Is the 'aqiqah acceptable if it is slaughtered after the newborn has passed his seventh day? I have heard a qudsi hadith to the effect that the 'aqiqah is slaughtered on the seventh day, or
on the fourteenth, or on the twenty-first? Or as it came in the hadith. What is the situation if the guardian or the father delays beyond these limits for a long time due to certain circumstances?

A1: The Sunnah regarding the time for slaughtering the 'aqiqah for the newborn is on the seventh day of his birth, based on the hadith of Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A boy is in pledge for his Aqiqah, Sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, his head is shaved and he is given name.كل غلام رهينة بعقيقته تذبح عنه يوم سابعه ويحلق ويسمى
Sunan Abi Dawud 2838Sahih (Al-Albani)
It was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and others. As for what you mentioned in the question about it being stated in a qudsi hadith that it is slaughtered on the seventh, or the fourteenth, or the twenty-first, what is transmitted is the hadith of Samurah mentioned regarding (the seventh day). As for specifying other days, that is in the statement of a group of the Salaf. Al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) said after the hadith of Samurah mentioned: This is a hasan sahih hadith, and the practice is in accordance with this among the people of knowledge. They recommend that the 'aqiqah be slaughtered for the boy on the seventh day. If it is not prepared on the seventh day, then on the fourteenth day. If it is not prepared, then it is slaughtered for him on the twenty-first day. End of quote. The Sunnah, as I know it, is in the hadith of Samurah regarding slaughtering it on the seventh day. Even if the guardian delays slaughtering it on that day until a long time has passed, it is acceptable; because the objective is achieved by slaughtering the 'aqiqah at any time, but he has missed the time of recommendation.
