Fatwa number ( 14444 )
Q: My wife and I performed the obligatory Hajj about thirteen years ago, and we intended for our Hajj to be Qiran, but we did not (we did not slaughter the sacrificial animal) out of ignorance. What is obligatory for me now? I am aware that I am four hundred and fifty kilometers away from Mecca . Is it obligatory for me to pay the cost of the sacrificial animal to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia project for the benefit of the meat of the sacrificial animals, or must I slaughter it myself?
A: It is obligatory for you to hasten to slaughter on behalf of yourself and your wife the expiation you left off, which is the same as what suffices for the 'Id sacrifice: a sheep that is six months old or older, or a goat that is one year old or older. It is to be slaughtered in Mecca , and one-third of it is to be distributed to the poor of the Haram. It is obligatory for you to pay the expiation as soon as you become aware of the ruling, whether during the Hajj season or after it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
