Q: Do we fast in this country ( India ), knowing that the duration of our stay is known approximately , since most of us fast Ramadan? Is it prescribed for us to break our fast if we do?
A: It is obligatory for you to fast Ramadan; because it is a pillar of Islam, and it is not permissible for you to break the fast; because you are residents in the place of study, and you are not under the ruling of travelers, and Allah has not permitted breaking the fast except for the sick person and the traveler, He the Exalted said:
So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysفَمَنْ شَهِدَ مِنْكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ

, and the pregnant and nursing women are included with them by the indication of the evidence, among which is the hadith of Anas ibn Malik about a man from Banu Ka'b , in al-Tirmidhi who said:
The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raided us, so I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and found him eating lunch, so he said: "Come closer and eat." I said: "I am fasting." He said: "Come closer, I will tell you about fasting. Indeed, Allah the Exalted has waived fasting and half of the prayer for the traveler, and fasting for the pregnant and nursing women."
the hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
