Fasting of a patient with kidney failure
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19810 )
Q1: In the year 1409 AH, Allah the Exalted willed that I be afflicted with kidney failure. I broke my fast for three days of Ramadan. Then, after three months, I underwent a transplant operation, and praise be to Allah, it was successful by the grace of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. In the year 1410 AH, that is, after the transplant, the doctors advised me not to fast because I need to drink large quantities of water and take certain medications. Since I have been suffering from high blood pressure since the year 1411 AH, I have been able to fast the month of Ramadan until now, praise be to Allah. However, I have not yet made up the month I broke or the three days. - Is it obligatory for me to pay an expiation for the past years, and what is its amount? - Is it permissible to combine them and give them to one person? - Is it permissible to pay them in cash, and how much?
A1: It is obligatory for you to make up the days that are due from you when you are able to do so, because it is a debt in your trust. You must also feed one poor person for each day along with making up the fasts. The amount is approximately one and a half kilograms, as compensation for delaying the make-up fasts after becoming able to perform them. You may give the entire expiation to one poor person or more. May Allah make your affairs easy and the affairs of every Muslim.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
