Making up the fast for a kidney patient

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14092 )
Q: I inform your eminence that in the year 1404 AH, Allah decreed upon me kidney failure. A kidney transplant was performed, and the operation was successful, praise be to Allah. However, during this period from 1404 AH to the end of 1409 AH, I was unable to fast the blessed month of Ramadan. During this time, I fed one poor person for each day until the end of 1409 AH. After that, the doctor advised me to start fasting from the month of Ramadan in 1410 AH. In 1411 AH, I fasted to make up the year 1405 AH, and the remaining four months. I ask for your guidance: is feeding sufficient to make up for the remaining four months, or am I obligated to fast and make them up? May Allah preserve you.
A: It is obligatory for you to make up the fasting of the months you did not fast due to illness, as long as you have recovered from the illness. Allah the Exalted said:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysوَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
