Fatwa number ( 18910 )
Q: A person performed Hajj this year, may Allah accept it from him. He asks: What is the ruling on his Hajj, given that in al-Safa and al-Mas'a he began with al-Mas'a and ended with al-Safa ? What is the ruling on his Hajj in terms of its invalidity or validity?
A : The lap he began with al-Mas'a in the Sa'y of Hajj is not valid. If he
completed seven laps after that, beginning with al-Safa and ending with al-Mas'a , then his Sa'y is complete and his Hajj is valid, and he owes nothing. If he counted the first lap in his Sa'y that he began with al-Mas'a , then the Sa'y is incomplete and not valid. If this incomplete Sa'y occurred after the first state of release by stoning the pillars and shaving or shortening the hair, he must repeat the Sa'y only. If he performed this Sa'y before attaining the first state of release, and if sexual intercourse occurred after this Sa'y, then the Hajj becomes defective, and he must proceed with his defective Hajj and complete it, and he must perform this Hajj again in another year, and he must offer a camel. If no sexual intercourse occurred after this invalidated Sa'y, he must repeat the Sa'y in full only. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
