Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us from al-Zuhri, who said: Urwah said: I asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said to her: What do you say about the statement of Allah the Exalted: "Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So one who performs Hajj or 'Umrah and circumambulates between them commits no sin." By Allah, there is no sin on anyone for not circumambulating al-Safa and al-Marwah. She said: What a bad thing you have said, O son of my sister! If this had been as you interpreted it, there would indeed be no sin on anyone for not circumambulating between them. But it was revealed regarding the Ansar, who before they embraced Islam used to declare their intention for Manat, the idol they used to worship at al-Mash'all. So some of the people hesitated to circumambulate al-Safa and al-Marwah. When they embraced Islam, they asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about that, saying: O Messenger of Allah, we used to hesitate to circumambulate between al-Safa and al-Marwah. So Allah the Exalted revealed: "Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah." Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established the practice of circumambulating between them, so no one has the right to leave off the circumambulation between them. Then I informed Abu Bakr ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, and he said: This is indeed knowledge I had not heard before. And I have heard men from among the people of knowledge mention that the people, except for those Aisha mentioned who used to declare their intention for Manat, were all circumambulating al-Safa and al-Marwah. When Allah the Exalted mentioned the circumambulation of the House in the Qur'an but did not mention al-Safa and al-Marwah, they said: O Messenger of Allah, we used to circumambulate al-Safa and al-Marwah, and Allah has revealed the circumambulation of the House but did not mention al-Safa. Is there any hardship on us if we circumambulate al-Safa and al-Marwah? So Allah the Exalted revealed: "Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah." Abu Bakr said: I have heard that this verse was revealed regarding both groups: those who used to hesitate to circumambulate al-Safa and al-Marwah in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, and those who used to circumambulate but then hesitated to circumambulate them in Islam because Allah the Exalted commanded the circumambulation of the House and did not mention al-Safa until it was mentioned after the mention of the circumambulation of the House..

The Shaykh : The one who reads the verse:
Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs 'umrah - there is no blame upon him for walking between them
[Al-Baqarah 2:158]
understands that the sin is removed by circumambulating them, and he was on the verge of committing a sin. But when one knows the occasion of revelation, the difficulty is resolved. The occasion of revelation was that they used to hesitate to circumambulate them because they used to declare their intention for Manat, the idol, at al-Mash'all, so they hesitated. And in it also
