Stoning the Pillars in One Batch
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 17444 )
Q: I performed Hajj with my wife, and I intended to perform Hajj on behalf of my mother. When stoning the first pillar, I intended the first stone for my mother and the second for my wife, since she had appointed me as her agent. And there was a severe crowd that caused me to be pushed away from the pool, so I threw what was in my hand all at once , and I hit the target. Does this stoning suffice? If it does not suffice, what is obligatory for me?
A : If the situation is as you described, then your stoning on behalf of yourself and your wife is not valid. It is obligatory for each of you to slaughter a fidyah (ransom payment) in Makkah to be distributed to the poor of the Haram. The fidyah is a sheep that suffices as an 'Id sacrifice, or one-seventh of a camel, or one-seventh of a cow. Whoever cannot afford the fidyah must fast for ten days. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
