The ruling on seeking blessing from the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q187: The questioner asks: Does the grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have a special distinction? Is it permissible to turn toward it when making supplication? And what is the prescribed manner of visiting him (peace and blessings be upon him)?
A187: The grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is like all other graves
in that it is not permissible to seek blessing from it, to rub against it, or against its walls. Likewise, it is not permissible to make supplication for oneself at the grave; that is, one does not supplicate for oneself at the grave. Rather, if one wishes to supplicate for oneself, one turns toward the mosque and supplicates facing the qiblah, away from the grave. What is prescribed regarding the grave of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is that one visits it, greets him, and faces it when greeting, saying: “Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.” Then one departs.
