Q: I am saving money to undergo a kidney transplant procedure. I know that this amount will necessarily exceed the nisab. Is zakah due on it?
A: If the situation is as you described, it is obligatory for you to pay zakah on this amount once a lunar year has passed after it reaches the nisab. The amount of zakah is one-quarter of a tenth (2.5%). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
