Q3: If a man buys land to build a villa on it in order to sell it, and two years pass
in building the villa, is zakah obligatory on him for these two years ? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
A3: As long as it is in the state of preparation and construction on the aforementioned land, zakah is not obligatory until the construction is completed and it becomes ready for sale. At that point, zakah becomes obligatory on it for every year that passes while it is offered for sale. He should appraise it at its value each year and pay out one-quarter of a tenth of its appraised value. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
