Q: I went with one of my relatives from the city of Riyadh to the city of Jeddah to visit a clinic for him, not for me. Before I left the city of Riyadh , my intention was that after finishing the doctor's appointment, I would perform an 'Umrah. While I was in the city of Jeddah at my relative's place, I asked him about the location of al-Sayl so that I could enter the state of ihram from there. My relative, who resides in the city of Jeddah , said to me: "Enter the state of ihram from the house, from my place, because it is valid for you to enter the state of ihram from the house in Jeddah ." Based on this, I and my companion who was with him entered the state of ihram from the city of Jeddah . Is my 'Umrah and my companion's 'Umrah valid or not? Please inform us; may Allah reward you.
A : If the matter is as you described, it is obligatory for you to enter the state of ihram from the miqat, which is al-Sayl in your case. Since you mentioned that you entered the state of ihram from Jeddah , you have left off a ritual, which is entering the state of ihram from the miqat. Therefore, you must offer a sacrificial animal that is sufficient as an 'Id sacrifice.
It is to be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed to the poor. If you are unable to do so, fast for ten days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
