The questioner : He says in his first question: What is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Kawthar 108:1-3]?
The Shaykh : The meaning of this great surah is that Allah the Exalted informs of what He has bestowed upon His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), where He gave him this al-Kawthar, which is the great, abundant good, as Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nisa 4:113]. And among it is al-Kawthar in Paradise, which is a river given to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), from which two spouts flow into his pool (peace and blessings be upon him), the pool that will be visited on the Day of Resurrection, which the believers from his Ummah will visit, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. Then, when Allah the Exalted mentioned what He had bestowed upon him of this abundant good, He commanded him to pray and sacrifice for Him, saying: [Al-Kawthar 108:2]. So prayer is the known prayer, which is the worship of Allah the Exalted through the known actions and words, beginning with the takbir and ending with the taslim. And the sacrifice is drawing near to Allah the Exalted by slaughtering the hadi and udhiyah, and what is prescribed of slaughters. So combining prayer and sacrifice is combining a bodily act of worship and a financial act of worship. And His saying: [Al-Kawthar 108:3] means that your hater, who hates you, is the cut off one, the severed one, in whom there is no good and no blessing. And this includes both the one who hates the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) personally, and it also includes the one who hates his Sunnah and his guidance. For whoever hates his Sunnah and his guidance, there is no doubt that he is cut off and severed, and all the good is in following the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), loving him, and honoring him as he deserves, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him.
(1) Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar. (2) So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone]. (3) Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.
