Ruling on going to sorcerers to break a spell
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q 143: The questioner is Egyptian and says in her question: My cousin’s daughter was afflicted with an illness that confined her to bed, and they told her that she had a touch of magic and the evil eye, so she visited one of the sorcerers to seek treatment. She has repented to Allah, so what is required of her?
A 143: She has committed a great error in this; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:741 And he was asked (peace and blessings be upon him) about the fortune-tellers, so he said: Therefore, it is not permissible to go to sorcerers and magicians. Illness is treated with permissible medicines; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So she should fear Allah, and repent from what happened from her with a sincere repentance, feel remorse, and not return to this matter,
and cut off her visits to the sorcerer, and not persist in them, so that perhaps Allah will accept her repentance.
A 143: She has committed a great error in this; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever goes to a fortune-teller or a diviner and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad
من أتى كاهناً أو عرافاً فصدقه بما يقول، فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمدThey are nothing.
ليسوا بشيءAllah has not sent down a disease except that He has sent down for it a cure, and some know it and some do not
ما أنزل الله داءً، إلاَّ أنزل له دواءً علمه من علمه، وجهله من جهلهand cut off her visits to the sorcerer, and not persist in them, so that perhaps Allah will accept her repentance.
