Inheritance: Zakah becomes obligatory from the time of receipt

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18585 )
Q1: I am the agent of the heirs who inherited a large amount of wealth, but there was a dispute regarding the money with the partner, and the dispute lasted for more than ten years due to the delay of the uncle who is the partner. Then, the money was handed over after this period in stages. The question is: what is the position of the heirs regarding zakah on that wealth for the period prior to taking possession? Do they have to pay zakah for the previous years, or only one year for what has passed , or is zakah not obligatory on it until a new lunar year has passed?
A1: Wealth that is delayed due to the delay of the one who holds it is subject to zakah if a lunar year has passed after its receipt, according to the correct opinion.
