Q: I have receivables with the state, and I do not know when they will be paid to me. Is zakah due on them when I receive them, or should I wait until the time for paying zakah? I note that I pay the zakah due on my wealth in the first month of Ramadan every year. Please advise me. May Allah reward you with good.
A: Zakah is obligatory on amounts receivable from the state if they are received and a lunar year has passed after their receipt. If you receive them and pay their zakah early in Ramadan along with your other wealth, there is nothing wrong with that.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
