Q: What is the ruling on those who gather in Ramadan from iftar until the end of suhur, bringing in a person for a fee to recite the Qur'an and lead them in the 'Isha' and tarawih prayers, with the recitation interspersed with drinking tea and other beverages, and they smoke shisha, and this imam smokes, and he makes talismans and veils in which people believe there is healing for the sick and others, as they also perform a completion of the Qur'an for the deceased in other than Ramadan, and they say: this is a night or evening gathering for Allah, and also when a person dies they set up a tent in which people gather,
and the Qur'an is recited, and there is smoking?
A: What is prescribed in the blessed month of Ramadan is fasting its days as an obligation, and the recommendation of standing in night prayer with the tarawih prayer in the manner reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions, and leaving behind the innovations that occurred after them. The reference for knowing the prescribed manner of the tarawih prayer is the books of the Sunnah and the words of the respected jurists, and it is not permissible to stay up late with what the questioner mentioned of smoking and shisha, and reciting the Qur'an in the manner the questioner described is not prescribed, and it is not permissible to pray behind an imam who writes talismans containing shirk and calling for aid from other than Allah, and it is not permissible to recite the Qur'an for the deceased at his death or after it, neither in Ramadan nor in other months; because there is no evidence for that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
