Ruling on Reciting at Ramadan Night Gatherings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20853 )
Q: I am a Quran reciter, and I hold Ramadan nights and gatherings. The fee for one night, using amplifiers, does not exceed twenty Egyptian pounds, no more. Some of my brother colleagues said that the recitation is forbidden and the fee is forbidden, citing the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Recite the Quran, but do not make much of it, and do not eat by itأقرءوا القرآن ولا تستكثروا به ولا تأكلوا به
. - What is the ruling of the religion in this matter? - Is this hadith authentic or not? - What is the ruling on recitation if the reciter conditions a fee? - What is the ruling on reciting at Ramadan night gatherings? - Does the reciter bear any sin in this?

A: This work that you are doing is not permissible; because it is an innovated act, and it involves cooperation in sin and aggression, and because taking a fee for reciting the Quran in innovated celebrations or for the souls of the deceased is forbidden.
As for the hadith, the Hafiz said in (al-Fath): It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Ya'la, and its chain is strong. You must repent to Allah and abandon this action, and draw near to Allah by reciting the Qur'an in the prescribed manner, for whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, He will replace it with something better. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
