Calculating the driver's wage from zakah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of fatwa number ( 14209 )
Q3: I do not drive a car, and my work and business require me to have a car, but my health conditions prevent me from doing this personally, which forced me to hire a Muslim driver from a country with a Muslim majority. Is his monthly wage considered as zakah from me? And if the answer is no, does he qualify for zakah even though he receives from me a monthly amount estimated at one thousand riyals (only 1000 riyals)?
A3 : The driver's wage is a right he has, and it is obligatory for you to pay it from your wealth, not from zakah. As for giving him from zakah if he is a poor Muslim, such that his income is insufficient for him and there is no favoritism, it is permissible to give him from it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
