Helping the poor Muslim from zakah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20733 )
Q: A very poor woman lives with her brother in his home and suffers from a chronic illness that requires continuous treatment. Given that she is extremely poor and has no source of livelihood other than living on her brother’s support, is it permissible for her to receive his zakah from his wealth to buy medicine? And is it permissible for her to use zakah money for her maintenance? It is known that her brother is not well-off; he has wealth that may reach the nisab and the lunar year passes over it, and he is only able to provide for her food, clothing, and shelter.
A: If the woman’s brother mentioned has provided for her with what is sufficient for her, then zakah is not permissible for her because she does not have a need for it. Treating her illness is recommended for her brother. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
