Q: Is it true that the woman who dies while giving birth to a child is in the rank of a martyr?
A:If a woman dies in childbirth, or dies while her fetus is still in her womb, she is a martyr, if Allah wills. Evidence for this is what was narrated by'Ubadah ibn al-Samitthat the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It was narrated byImam Ahmadin his (Musnad)and Ibn Majahand Ibn Hibbanin his (Sahih) and others. The meaning of his statement: "dies in childbirth" is that the woman in labor dies while her fetus is in her womb. Evidence for this is also what was narrated byRashid ibn Habish It was narrated byImam Ahmadin his (Musnad)and Abu Dawudin his (Sunan), andImam Muslimsomething similar in his book
(al-Imarah - Chapter 51, Vol. 3, p. 1521). And other evidence indicating the greatness of the reward for one who dies in childbirth or dies while a child is in her womb, and that she is among the martyrs of the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). However, the highest rank of martyrs with Allah is: the one who is killed in the cause of Allah the Exalted. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

What do you consider to be a martyr among you? They said: The one who fights and is killed in the cause of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If that is the case, then the martyrs of my Ummah are few. The one killed in the cause of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies of the plague is a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr, and the woman who dies in labor is a martyr.
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) visited 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit during his illness. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know who the martyr of my Ummah is? The people were silent. 'Ubadah said: Support me, and they supported him. He said: O Messenger of Allah, the patient one who seeks reward. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If that is the case, then the martyrs of my Ummah are few. Being killed in the cause of Allah the Mighty and Majestic is martyrdom, the plague is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, a stomach ailment is martyrdom, and the woman in labor is dragged by her child with its umbilical cord to Paradise.
