The lineage of the child of the fornicator to his mother

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14014 )
Q: I am a twenty-four-year-old man studying in America. About two years ago, I met an American girl, and after a few days, I had sexual intercourse with her. The relationship continued for a long time, until the girl became pregnant with my child. However, I did not care about the matter, and the relationship continued until she gave birth to a girl. Now the girl is one and a half years old and is with her mother. O honorable Shaykh: I do not know what to do in this case, nor do I know what the ruling of Islam is in it. Should I marry this girl? Does the girl belong to me or to her mother? Should I leave her and return to Saudi Arabia, and return to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and forget everything?
O honorable Shaykh: Please reply as soon as possible, knowing that, O Shaykh, I will do everything you say. The only thing troubling me, O Shaykh, is the girl; what is her fate? I am in great confusion about my situation, and I am afraid, O Shaykh, of doing something that I will regret for the rest of my life. Please provide a clear answer, and may Allah reward you with good.

A: First: It is obligatory for you to repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) from the crime of fornication that you committed, along with increasing good deeds, performing acts of obedience, and staying away from evil deeds and bad companions. Second: The girl born from fornication is not attributed to you, but rather she is attributed to her mother. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
