The second question of Fatwa No. ( 17904 )
Q2: In our village, some of the elderly attribute a son to his mother rather than his father. What is the ruling?
A2: It is obligatory to attribute the child to his father, and it is not permissible to attribute him to his mother, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:5] If his father is unknown, he is attributed to a suitable name, such as 'Abd Allah or 'Abd al-Rahman, or the like. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
