Voluntary Fasting

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q1: Some people say that fasting on the Day of 'Arafah is a religious innovation?
A1: Fasting on the Day of 'Arafah is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah mu'akkadah); based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding fasting on the Day of 'Arafah:
I hope, will expiate for the sins of the previous yearأحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة الماضية والباقية
Sunan Ibn Majah 1738Sahih (Darussalam)
. It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad . The statement that fasting on it is a religious innovation is a false statement, may Allah except the case where the speaker intends fasting on it for the pilgrim, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
It is forbidden to fast on the Day of 'Arafah while at 'Arafahنهى عن صيام يوم عرفة بعرفة
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:399
; because it is more comfortable for the pilgrim, and not because it is a religious innovation.
