Q: If I enter with the imam in the state in which I find him, for example in the final tashahhud, do I say the taslim with him because I did not catch even one rak'ah with him, and then I perform the takbir of ihram and pray my prayer anew, or do I stand up and perform the rak'ahs of the prayer? And if I stand up, do I say the takbir of standing up, the takbir of ihram, or do I stand up without any takbir?
A: If you enter with the imam at any part of the prayer, even in the final tashahhud before the taslim, then when the imam says the taslim, you do not say the taslim with him. Rather, you stand up saying the takbir of standing up to complete what you missed of the prayer; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 635 , narrated by the group except al-Tirmidhi , and in a wording
al-Nasa'i and Ahmad : "then make up what you missed." And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
