Prayer behind an imam who recites qunut in every Fajr
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of fatwa number ( 17574 )
Q 2: It is well known about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he did not persist in the qunut of Fajr, and that this practice is a misguided religious innovation. The question here is what we should do when praying behind someone who persists in the qunut of Fajr; should we follow him ? Because the imam is appointed to be followed, or should we follow the Sunnah and differ from the imam in this? And if differing from the imam causes fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) among the worshippers, are we required to follow the rule of choosing the lesser of two harms? Please guide us to the correct course.
A 2 : The Sunnah is to not recite qunut in the Fajr prayer except in times of calamities, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. Your prayer behind an imam who persists in the qunut is more preferable than leaving the prayer behind him, if leaving it leads to discord and fitnah (trial, discord or temptation).
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
