Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite the qunut in the Fajr prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
At the beginning of this episode, we review a message sent to the program from the listener Muhammad Farhan from Yemen. Brother Muhammad asks in his first question about the qunut in the Fajr prayer, saying: Tell us about the qunut in the Fajr prayer, its ruling, the ruling on leaving it, and whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the qunut in the Fajr prayer? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The qunut in the Fajr prayer is not established by any authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). There are weak hadiths regarding it, and the correct view is that he used to recite the qunut in times of calamity, when a disaster struck the Muslims; he would recite it in the Fajr, in the Maghrib, and in other prayers. This is called the qunut of calamities. As for reciting the qunut on a permanent basis, it is not established from him (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes, that is mentioned in some hadiths that ... contain weakness. It is established from Sa'd ibn Tariq ibn Ashim that he said to his father: "O my father! You prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and behind Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthman, and 'Ali. Did they recite the qunut in the Fajr?" He said: "O my son, are you a new convert?"
This indicates that they did not recite the qunut in the Fajr except for an occasion, meaning: in times of calamity. When a disaster struck the Muslims, they would recite the qunut in the calamity, supplicating for the defeat of the enemy and for the victory of the Muslims, if the enemy attacked the lands of the Muslims, or if fighting occurred between the Muslims and their enemy; the Muslims would recite the qunut, supplicating for the victory of the mujahideen and for the defeat of the enemies.
As for the persistence of some people in reciting the qunut in the Fajr, it is a weak and weaker position, even though a group of scholars have said it. However, the better and more preferable thing is to leave it, due to the lack of established evidence for it, except when a calamity strikes the Muslims. This is the stronger position. If you pray with someone who recites the qunut, pray with them, and praise be to Allah; because they have a doubt (shubhah), and some scholars have said it, and there are some hadiths in it that contain weakness. But the preferable thing, and what we advise our brothers to do, is to leave it, except if there is something that necessitates it, such as calamities, like the Muslims reciting the qunut for the Afghan mujahideen for their fighting with their enemy, and the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the like of that. This is the qunut for calamities, in the Fajr and other prayers. Yes.
