Reciting the Tashahhud in place of the Fatiha
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 17598 )
Q: It happened that I recited the Tashahhud in the rak'ah instead of the Fatiha and I did not remember it until after completing the bowing in that rak'ah. Question: Should I prostrate twice, sit for the Tashahhud, and then conclude the prayer, or should I return and recite the Fatiha, then bow again, and then complete the prayer? Knowing that this will confuse me and the worshippers' prayer, what should I do if this happens in the future? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: If the one who forgot to recite the Fatiha is an imam or praying alone, and he did not remember it until after he had bowed, then he must return to standing and recite the Fatiha and whatever is easy of the Qur'an after it, if it was before the first Tashahhud. If it was after the first Tashahhud, he recites only the Fatiha, then bows and completes his prayer, and he must perform the prostration for forgetfulness; because reciting the Fatiha is a pillar of the prayer, and the prayer is not valid without it. If he was a follower, he continues in his bowing and does not return; because it is not obligatory for him to recite the Fatiha in this case, as its time has passed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
