What does the imam do if he forgets a verse while reciting?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 17227 )
Q 2: It happened in one of the secondary schools that when one of the students
stood up to perform the tarawih prayer with his classmates, he forgot a verse from one of the Qur'anic surahs and did not know about it. After the completion of the prayer, his friends informed him of this, so he was confused whether he should repeat the prayer or what he should do. And if he leaves it, will his prayer be accepted? What is the ruling in this matter?

A 2: If the imam forgets a verse from Surat al-Fatihah and does not remember it until a long time has passed, then it is obligatory for him to repeat the prayer if it is an obligatory prayer; because reciting al-Fatihah is a pillar of the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam)
But if he remembers it before a long interval, then he performs a rak'ah in place of the rak'ah in which he left out the recitation of a verse from al-Fatihah, and he prostrates for forgetfulness. As for if the forgotten verse is from other than al-Fatihah, then his prayer is valid and he owes nothing, nor does anyone behind him owe anything in that, because reciting what is in addition to al-Fatihah is recommended and not obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
