The traveler following the resident in prayer

Fatwa number ( 14773 )
Q: I was traveling a distance of approximately 150 km, accompanied by some
of my brothers. During our journey, we passed by some people on the side of the road, and we caught the 'Isha' prayer with them. My companions reminded me that we should shorten our prayer according to our situation. So, one of my companions led us. When the imam completed two rak'ahs, I sat down and recited the tashahhud and the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The imam then stood up and completed the four-rak'ah prayer, but I remained seated until he finished his prayer and said the taslim, so I said the taslim with him. What is the correct course of action in this case? Is my prayer valid, or what is obligatory for me? And what is obligatory for the congregation who prayed with me, knowing that we have a journey ahead of us? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: It is the sunnah for a traveler, if his imam completes the four-rak'ah prayer, to follow him; because shortening the four-rak'ah prayer is a dispensation (rukhsah) and not obligatory. Therefore, it is obligatory for you to repeat the aforementioned 'Isha' prayer in full, without shortening it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
