The ruling on a traveler following a resident in prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a traveler catches up with a resident imam in the four-rak'ah prayer while he is in the final tashahhud, does he pray two rak'ahs and conclude the prayer, or does he complete the prayer?

Answer:
He completes the prayer if he joins him, even if it is in the final rak'ah; he finishes it. This is based on the statement of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) : "Pray what you catch up with, and complete what you missed." So if he catches up with him in a rak'ah, or less, or more, he completes the prayer.
