The Prayer of One Afflicted with Rheumatism
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20055 )
Q1: My father is unable to perform the prayer in the required manner due to his suffering from rheumatism and his advanced age. I have placed a chair for him so that he can pray sitting in the first row. My father attends the mosque early, but some of the brothers moved the chair to the second or third row, saying that it is not permissible to place the chair in the first row and that he must go back, which
led to an argument. I would like to be informed about this.
A1 : The sick person prays according to his ability, standing, sitting, on his side, or lying down with his feet toward the qiblah. He indicates his ruku' and sujud, making his sujud lower than his ruku'. There is no harm in praying on a chair if sitting on the ground is difficult for him, and there is no harm in placing it in the first row; this does not affect the continuity of the row. His Muslim brothers should be gentle with him and make room for him in an appropriate place. If he does not find an appropriate place, let him be at the end of the row to avoid discord. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
