The Manner of Prayer for the Sick Person
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener: Ali Awadh al-Mubarak from Sudan sent a question, saying: My mother fell ill with an illness that confined her to the house, and she was unable to pray, and she died in that state. So what do you advise us to do regarding her? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If her mind was gone, if her mind was gone, then there is nothing required of her. Otherwise, it is obligatory for her to pray, even if on her side, and she should learn and pray, even if on her side, if she cannot pray standing or sitting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the sick person:Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani).
Thus, it is obligatory for the sick person, if he is able to pray standing, to pray standing, bowing and prostrating. If he is unable, he prays sitting, gesturing for the bowing, and prostrating on the ground if he is able. If not, he gestures for the bowing and prostration, making the prostration lower than the bowing. If he is unable, he prays on his side, and the best is on his right side. He prays with the words and the intention, saying the takbir, reciting al-Fatihah and whatever is easy with it, then saying the takbir and intending the bowing, saying: (Glory be to my Lord, the Great, Glory be to my Lord, the Great), then saying: (Allah hears the one who praises Him) while on his side, intending to rise from the bowing, and saying: (Our Lord, and to You is the praise) and so on.
Then he says the takbir intending the prostration, and says: (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High, Glory be to my Lord, the Most High), and supplicates to his Lord. Then he says the takbir intending to rise from the prostration and the sitting between the two prostrations, saying: (My Lord, forgive me, My Lord, forgive me). Then he says the takbir intending the second prostration, and so on, until he completes it while on his side, or lying down. If he is lying down, he directs his feet toward the qiblah, raising his head slightly so that he prays toward the qiblah, just as the one on his side does. He prays with the intention and the words, and raises his hands if he is able at the opening takbir, at the bowing, at rising from it, and at rising from the first tashahhud. If he is able, he raises his hands while on his side, or lying down, or sitting. Yes.
